City firefighters responded at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, to an alarm at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, 3100 Oak Grove Road. It was investigation only.

City firefighters responded at 1:39 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, to a report of smoke coming from the heater at the 444 N. Main St. apartment occupied by Patsy Sullivan.
According to the report, Sullivan had the heater turned off upon the fire department’s arrival.
Firefighters checked the heater’s filters, which were a little dirty, but there was no dust was inside the heater.
Firefighters turned the heater back on, and it ran and heated without any problems. It is believed dust burning off the inside of the heater caused the smoke.
Firefighters told Sullivan to have the heater serviced/cleaned.

County firefighters responded at 1:19 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, to a grass and woods fire at 2484 County Road 461.
According to the report, about one acre burned.
