FISK, Mo. - Saturday is the deadline to enter the second annual Fisk Lighted Christmas parade, which will be Saturday, Dec. 21.

Last year’s event was “so successful,” said Raymond Stewart, president of the Fisk planning committee. “We want to invite everybody to join in and make a float. We would like to have everyone enter by Dec. 7 or before. Drop the entries at the Fisk City Hall or Stewart and Son Groceries,” Stewart said.

The Lighted Christmas parade and other events last year were fundraisers to provide Christmas for 44 area children, Stewart said. The students were selected through Fisk Middle School teachers and administration .

This year, the Fisk Fall Festival brought in enough funds to see the children will have Christmas, and “we are not requiring any fees for the parade,” he said.

The committee is inviting everyone to attend.

“We encourage everyone to participate, to sing some Christmas carols, walk with the parade and help celebrate the Christmas season and the true meaning of Christmas,” Stewart said.

The total number of units in the parade last year was about 50, including floats, groups of people walking and carolers, Stewart said.

The parade starts at 6 p.m. and Stewart said, “we will be lining up at 5:30 p.m. in the Twin Rivers Fisk parking lot. We will have Santa Land in the Fisk Civic Center. We will be serving hot chocolate and cookies. Santa and the old Mr. Grinch will be there for you to get your pictures.”

The Grinch is a fictional character created by Dr. Seuss, and is best known as the main character of the children’s book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”

Parents will not have to pay for the photos with Santa or Mr. Grinch this year, said Stewart, adding this year’s events “are not a money making deal.”
