CAPE GIRARDEAU — A Doniphan man was sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Terrance R. Malkowski, 28, was sentenced to 64 months imprisonment on one felony count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon by U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr., according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to court records, on March 28, a man called the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department to report a man, later identified as Malkowski, had shot at his vehicle on Highway 160. The caller reported the man was shouting at him as he drove by the man’s residence.

Ripley County Sheriff Mike Barton and a deputy drove to the scene and made contact with Malkowski at his home.

Malkowski reportedly admitted he had shot at the caller’s vehicle as it had driven by his home.

Malkowski allowed the sheriff to go inside his residence to retrieve the firearm, which was a Wenders 12-gauge shotgun.

When the officers conducted a pat-down of Malkowski, they found nine live rounds of Remington 12-gauge shotgun ammunition in his pocket.

Malkowski has a prior conviction for second-degree assault in Ripley County and was prohibited from possessing firearms.

This case was investigated by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Assistant United States Attorney Keith D. Sorrell handled the prosecution for the government.
