Two area residents were killed in a one-vehicle crash at 9:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, on Highway 25, one and one-half mile north of Bernie.

According to the report, Jeffrey S. Stultz, 55, of Pocahontas, Ark., was operating a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am southbound when it ran off the road and struck a utility pole.

Stultz and one of his passengers, Renee N. Karpinski, 41, of Holcomb reportedly were ejected. Both were pronounced dead at the scene at 10:52 p.m. by Stoddard County Coroner Kenny Pope.

Another passenger, Tyler S. Stultz, 21, of Holcomb, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

An 11-year-old Holcomb boy also suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis for treatment.

Jeffrey Stultz and Karpinski are the 42nd and 43rd fatalities in Troop E this year.
