City firefighters responded at 2:44 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, to a motor-vehicle crash at the intersection of 11th and West Pine streets. It was investigation only.

City firefighters responded at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, to an alarm at Fairfield Inn and Suites, 3109 Oak Grove Road.

According to the report, firefighters were told a carbon monoxide detector was sounding in a utility room.

Firefighters reportedly found a large exhaust duct on the back of a commercial-style dryer was in pieces like it was being worked on.

Firefighters detected a faint smell of natural gas in the room and used a gas meter, which detected a very small amount of combustible gas present.

Spire gas was contacted to come and inspect the system.

Employees reported the dryer had been used just prior to calling the fire department.

By the time gas company personnel arrived, the smell and presence of natural gas had dissipated.

The alarm’s cause was found to be the vent not being connected while the dryer was in operation.

City firefighters responded at 10:04 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, to a carbon monoxide detector sounding at the 533 Karen Drive residence occupied by Kasey Reed.

According to the report, firefighters used a multirae gas meter, which registered a reading.

Spire and Poplar Bluff Housing Authority personnel were contacted.

A second reading was taken, which was higher than the first, but nothing was detected in an adjacent apartment.

Spire personnel reportedly checked the equipment inside the residence and outside at the meter, and found the equipment was operating normally.

Housing officials reportedly were notified as to a faulty detector.

City firefighters responded at 7:55 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, to a report of an unauthorized burn at the intersection of Ninth and Kendall.

According to the report, firefighters found a small fire burning one block east in a ditch in front of the 702 S. Eighth St. residence occupied by Dawn Smith.

Firefighters put out the fire.

City firefighters responded at 6:32 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, to an alarm at the 419 W. Henry St. owned and occupied by John Morrow.

According to the report, firefighters heard a muted alarm upon their arrival and could smell an odor of natural gas.

Firefighters reportedly beat on the door, but no one answered. A multirae gas meter detected carbon monoxide outside the residence.

Firefighters requested police officers, emergency-medical-services personnel and Spire employees respond to the scene.

Firefighters reportedly forcibly entered the home and found Morrow sleeping in a bedroom. Firefighters had to shake the Morrow in order to wake him.

Firefighters reportedly detected carbon monoxide in the home.

Morrow was checked by EMS and found to be stable; he subsequently taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment.

When Spire employees checked the home, no readings were registered. The gas was shut off to the home until Morrow returns.

According to the report, firefighters checked for injuries and assisted in traffic control.

City firefighters responded at 2:01 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, to a fire east of Richard’s Roadware on Washington Street. It was investigation only.

According to the report, firefighters found Michael Cochran was performing yard clean up at the rear of his 514 Cleveland St. residence.

Cochran reportedly was complying with the city’s burn ordinance.
