Artie McGowen Jr.

FISK — Artie Lloyd McGowen Jr., age 82, of Poplar Bluff, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. Mr. McGowen was born October 25, 1936 at Puxico, son of the late Artie Sr. and Bertha McGowen. He had served in the U.S. Navy and had retired from Ford Motor Company. Artie volunteered at the Broseley Senior Center and had formerly served as president of the board. He attended Trinity Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. He was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed playing cards.

On December 20, 1955 he married Peggy Frazier. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1999. On March 10, 2013 he married Sue Stonecipher. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Linda Key of Apollo Beach, Fla.; three sons, Bill McGowen and Dan McGowen, both of St. Louis and Don McGowen of Mississippi; one stepson, Thomas Stonecipher of Poplar Bluff; five sisters, Frances Inman, Dimple Sallee and Beulah Clark all of Poplar Bluff, Vivian McMillin of Pevely, Mo. and Glenda Kirkman of Williamsville; one brother, Roy McGowen, of Poplar Bluff and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Artie Dale McGowen; two sisters, Lois Kirkman and Florine Moore; one brother, Bob McGowen and one step-son, Robert Stonecipher.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Vaughn Kirkman officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
