The outage occurred at approximately 8:53 a.m. with power resuming in some areas around 9:22 a.m. According to reports, over 4,400 Municipal Utilities customers were affected.
Bill Bach, general manager of Municipal Utilities, said a bush hog operating on the east side of Poplar Bluff threw a wire up into an energized power line causing the outage. No injuries were reported.
Poplar Bluff residents and business owners were left in the dark this morning after a widespread power outage engulfed the city. The outage left many without internet service as well.
Municipal Utilities representatives were unsure what caused the outage and are continuing to assess the situation.
At 9:30 a.m. Poplar Bluff High School and some businesses in the downtown area regained power.
