Butler County commissioners have accepted a bid to provide a transport van for prisoners housed by the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, and a separate bid for a paving project in the Harviell area.
The bids were received and accepted last week, said county clerk Tonyi Deffendall.
The sheriff’s department received one bid from the Manufacturers Assistance Group of Poplar Bluff for a vehicle.
The cost is $8,000 for a 2013 Ford E350, 15 passenger van, with mileage of 47,520.
The current transport van is more than 10 years old and has more than 150,000 miles, said Sheriff Mark Dobbs.
It needs multiple repairs, and the department determined it would be better to replace the van, he said.
It is used to transport prisoners to Missouri Department of Corrections locations, including Bonne Terre, Vandalia and Fulton, as well as occasionally for out-of-state transport.
The department will transfer the prisoner enclosures from the current vehicle to the new vehicle, Dobbs said.
A single bid was also received for the paving project, from Robertson Asphalt for the project, at a total cost of $134,234. The county will contribute about $20,000 to the overall cost. The remainder will come from a Community Development Block Grant. Only areas that meet certain qualifications related to low and moderate income households are eligible.
The paving work will take approximately seven to 10 days, depending on weather, once it begins, officials said.
It will include: new asphalt pavement on First, Third, Ponder, Mangold and Fifth streets. West Main and East Main streets will also receive overlay. Associated drainage and prep work will be done by the county, according to grant documents.
