FISK, Mo. — Vernon Lavon Self went to heaven on August 15 , 2019, in Poplar Bluff, at the age of 90. Vernon was born on March 9, 1929, in Gideon to Charles Edward and Mary Elner Self. He was preceded in death by five sisters, one grandchild, and one great grandchild. He was married to Donna (Hamilton) Self for seventy years and they worked faithfully together in their Christian ministry for over forty years. He will be remembered for his vibrant personality and ability to make friends with anyone who crossed his path.
He is survived by his wife Donna residing in Poplar Bluff, son Gary (Carole) Self residing in Greer, South Carolina, daughter Lavonda (Dennis) Henson residing in Crossville, Tenn., and son Steve (Sandy) Self residing in Malden. He is also survived by one brother Dale Self residing in Campbell and one sister Charlotte Bell residing in Kansas City, Mo.
He leaves five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will begin Tuesday August 20 at 1 p.m. at White Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.
