Westwood Hills Health Care Center in Poplar Bluff will be handing out free hotdogs and drinks today to all persons over the age of 55 in honor of World Senior Citizens Day.
President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation designating Aug. 21, 1988 as National Senior Citizens Day. The General Assembly of the United Nations followed with an international proclamation on Dec. 14, 1990.
Westwood Hills organizers wanted to celebrate the day in appreciation of older citizens and the contributions they make to society. The facility also recognizes the factors and issues affecting the elderly population and wanted to bring awareness of those issues to the community.
The event will be from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Westwood Hills Health Center, 3100 Warrior Ln. in Poplar Bluff and is open to anyone age 55 or older.
