Barely a year after opening, Scotty’s Brewhouse in Poplar Bluff may be shut down as the parent company battles bankruptcy.

The location was closed as of early Saturday evening, with no answer at the location’s phone number. A sign on the door says closed until further notice.

The Indianapolis Business Journal reported Saturday that at least 15 Scotty’s or Scotty’s-related locations have closed since the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December. The closures have involved both corporate-owned and independent operations.

Scotty’s opened in Poplar Bluff in April 2018, as part of the Eight Points retail area. Owners said it would bring 100 new part-time and full-time jobs to the area.

It was the first Missouri location for the group.

“We feel that the state of Missouri, beginning with Poplar Bluff, is a great next step in our nation-wide expansion,” said Chris Martin, president of Scotty’s Brewhouse said at that time. “We will be making more announcements about other locations in the coming months, but today we are excited to be coming to Poplar Bluff.”

The last four Scotty’s Brewhouse locations in Indiana have been permanently closed, IBJ reported, citing a statement from the owner.

“When filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December of 2018, the company had the ultimate plan to restructure and come out stronger than ever,” the statement to IBJ said. “With the unfortunate and untimely series of events such as closings of stores, as well as the loss of some of our managed locations, this seemed to have an unfortunate and unrecoverable effect on the operations and overall sales and revenues that the company was bringing in. The company has been struggling for some time and unfortunately could not overcome the deficit that was ahead of [it].”

Scotty’s Brewhouse had 16 locations throughout Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Florida and Texas at the time it opened in Poplar Bluff. The original Scotty’s Brewhouse was opened in Muncie, Indiana in 1996. Due North Holdings along with ZGrowth Partners acquired Scotty’s Brewhouse in late 2017, with plans to grow the brand to 100 locations.
