County firefighters responded at 8:56 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, to a structure fire at 75 Slingshot Lane.

According to the report, the fire damaged an exhaust fan at the home owned by Eddie Dortch and occupied by Brenda Moore.

According to the report, firefighter cooled down boxes that still were burning from the fire on Tuesday.

According to the report, the plane had landed in a rice field.

According to the report, a vehicle was smoking after it struck a house; however, no fire was found.

County firefighters responded at 7:09 p.m. Thursday, July 11, to assist Wayne County firefighters on a structure fire on Highway 49.

City firefighters responded at 10:43 p.m. Thursday, July 11, to a report of a structure fire at the 1210 Harper St. residence owned by Edward and Tabitha Henson.

According to the report, firefighters found smoke coming from windows in one corner of the structure.

Firefighters put out the majority of the fire and then checked for hot spots.

A positive-pressure-ventilation fan was set up to remove heat and smoke from the structure.

The fire reportedly had burned into the attic, and firefighters put out the hot spots in the attic. A total of about 500 gallons of water was used to put out the fire.

The power to the home reportedly had been turned on earlier in the day, and Municipal Utilities and Spire personnel responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

City firefighters responded at 9:58 p.m. Thursday, July 11, to a report of a gas odor at the 930 Tremont St. residence occupied by Dewayne Featherston and owned by Chris Dunivan.

According to the report, firefighters found one the home’s occupants was cleaning tools with gasoline, and another occupant had complained about smelling gas inside the residence.

The one occupant reportedly agreed to move further away from the home to avoid getting a gas odor in the residence as the tools were cleaned.

City firefighters responded at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, to assist medical personnel at 603 Ferguson.

City firefighters responded at 9:32 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, to a report of an unauthorized burn at the 608 N. Sixth St. residence occupied by Stefan Smith.

According to the report, firefighters found furniture being burned in the back yard and used 20 gallons of water to put out the fire.
