Orscheln Farm and Home of Poplar Bluff will soon be expanding with a move to a larger building.
The business will take over a portion of 2223 N. Westwood Blvd., the former location of Kmart. Company representatives hope to be open there by mid-to-late summer.
A permit has been filed with the city to complete nearly $1.3 million in renovations to 58,000 square feet of the building. Orscheln will occupy just over two-thirds of the 86,300-square-foot structure, with the Goodwill Excel Center already operating in the other space.
City permits show new loading docks, plumbing and other work will take place first.
Orscheln’s curent location at 950 N. Westwood Blvd., is also a former Kmart store.
Kmart operated at the 950 addressed from 1977 to 1990, when the retailer moved to the 2223 address. Kmart closed its Poplar Bluff location in early 2018.
Orscheln of Cape Girardeau is also moving to a closed Kmart store, with renovations set to be completed there in the fall.
The Cape location will top 50,000 square feet, and offer a new Orscheln Outdoors department with firearms and ammunition, fishing gear and outdoor apparel, representatives have said in a press release. Clothing, pet, livestock and hardware departments are also expected to expand at that location.
Orscheln Farm & Home, headquartered in Moberly, Missouri, owns and operates 167 stores in 11 states in the South and Midwest.
