The Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of Education voted Thursday evening to fill the position assistant of superintendent of personnel following the move of Dr. Amy Jackson to assistant superintendent of business.
Fara Jones will join the Poplar Bluff School District from Scott County R-IV School District on July 1.
“As a school district we are excited and pleased to welcome Ms. Fara Jones to our administration team and school family,” Superintendent Dr. Scott Dill said. “Jones is a seasoned administrator with many years as a building level administrator and as a superintendent of schools.”
Dill went on to add Jones brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position.
A career educator of 23 years in the Scott County R-IV School District, Jones began her tenure in 1996 as an art instructor for grades 7-12.
In 2000, she was promoted to school administration, serving as elementary principal for the next 13 years.
In 2013, she took the helm of superintendent of schools, and has retained the leadership post for the past six years.
Jones is currently working on her doctorate degree in leadership through William Woods University, where she previously earned her master’s of education and administration specialist degrees, respectively.
Since 2013, Jones has served as secretary and treasurer of the Southeast Missouri Region E Superintendent Association, facilitating and coordinating with state and area supervisors, and conducting association record keeping and reconciling accounts.
A Scott County native, Jones looks forward to joining Dill’s superintendent cabinet on July 1, succeeding Jackson as assistant superintendent of personnel.
Jackson accepted the position of assistant superintendent of business. Her predecessor Rod Priest will be retiring at the end of June.
