City firefighters responded at 12:46 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, to a report of smoke in the area of the 1700 block of Illinois Avenue. According to the report, firefighters were told en route that a police officer heard a smoke detector sounding in one of the housing units on Illinois. Upon investigating, the officer found the detector was malfunctioning and called Poplar Bluff Housing Authority personnel to repair it...

City firefighters responded at 12:46 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, to a report of smoke in the area of the 1700 block of Illinois Avenue.

According to the report, firefighters were told en route that a police officer heard a smoke detector sounding in one of the housing units on Illinois. Upon investigating, the officer found the detector was malfunctioning and called Poplar Bluff Housing Authority personnel to repair it.

Firefighters found a haze of smoke in the area north of Henry Street, and an officer found a trash can smoking on Vincent Street.

Firefighters found yard debris burning at the 1406 Vincent St. residence owned and occupied by Lisa Cox.

Cox reportedly was told about the city’s burn ordinance, and the fire was put out.

City firefighters responded at 2:28 p.m. Monday, March 18, to the area of U.S. Bank, 200 S. Main St., to assist police officers after a person locked his or her keys in a vehicle.

After speaking with the occupants, firefighters reportedly were able to remove a window, reach the door lock and unlock the vehicle.
