The only hunter education skills course scheduled in Poplar Bluff this spring will be held Tuesday, March 12, at the Poplar Bluff Junior High School gymnasium.
The class is scheduled to run from 5-9 p.m.
The course is free of charge and is open to anyone at least 11 years of age.
You must register for the course online at mdc.mo.gov.
To be admitted, you must first complete the knowledge portion of the course, which can be done online or by completing the chapter review pages in the hunter education manual, available for free at permit vendors, and you must show proof of completion when signing in to the skills course.
Students are asked to bring a pencil and identification.
If there are not enough students to hold the course, it will be canceled, however, you may find another course in the Southeast Missouri region, if available, by searching the Department of Conservation’s website.
Those age 16 and older who need hunter education certification also can complete the entire course online if they wish.
If you cannot obtain hunter education certification before the spring turkey season and you are at least 16 years old, you also can hunt on an apprentice hunter permit, as long as you hunt alongside a properly-licensed adult hunter.
If you are unsure of the hunter education requirements to purchase firearms hunting permits, contact Butler County Conservation Agents Frank Campa at 573-300-3475 or Mark Skelton at 573-300-3693.
