Poplar Bluff police say a person of interest was taken into custody Sunday evening following a weekend shooting.

The blue Ford Explorer that was sought in connection with the incident has also been impounded, said police Chief Danny Whiteley.

The investigation is ongoing across multiple jurisdictions, he said. No other information could be released as of 10:30 a.m. Monday.

The shooting was the result of an incident at a local business that escalated after both parties left, police said Saturday.

Two vehicles where traveling on Highway 53, just before the Westwood Boulevard intersection, when the suspects pulled along side the victims’ vehicle. According to police reports, they fired several shots and hit a passenger.

The passenger was wounded in the arm and treated at a Poplar Bluff hospital, officers said.

Two white males were sought in connection with the incident. Officers believed they left the scene in a late 1990s or early 2000s blue Ford Explorer.

“We certainly want to thank the citizens for the calls that came in,” Whiteley said, of the response since police asked for the public’s help to identify the suspects.

Additional information will be released at www.darnews.com as it becomes available.
