Winter weather advisory issued for area Friday
The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky issued a Winter Weather Advisory for area counties from noon Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday with ice accumulations expected.
A winter storm system will bring freezing rain, sleet and snow to the area Friday afternoon through Friday night with ice accumulations of around one to two-tenths of an inch and up to two inches of snow and sleet further north.
A Winter Weather Advisory means snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause slippery roads and limited visibilities, and that residents should use caution while driving.
Counties in the advisory include Butler, Carter, Ripley, Stoddard, Wayne and counties to the north.
Winds could gust as high as 20 mph Friday night with a low around 23 degrees.
The forecast for Saturday calls for a high near 36 degrees and partly sunny but there is a 30 percent chance of rain and sleet late Saturday night.
