SILVA, Mo. — Allen J. Hicks, age 102, of Silva, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Stockhoff Memorial Nursing Home in Fredericktown, Mo. He was born July 13, 1916 at Brooklin, Ark., the son of Charlie Hicks and Paralee (Hargrove) Hicks. A long time resident of Silva, Allen and his wife operated the Hicks Grocery in Silva. He was a World War II veteran, entering the US Army January 5,1942. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant October 1,1945. Allen was a long time member of the New Hope General Baptist Church in Silva. He was the church caretaker from 1985 to 2008.
Allen was married to Pauline Clubb October 15, 1945 in Piggott, Ark. and she passed away October 25, 2015. Also preceding him in death are his parents, Charlie and Paralee Hicks, one son, A. Ross Hicks, two daughters, Lois Thompson and Joyce Kee, one brother, Earnie Hicks, two sisters, Charlene Marshall and Flossie Meynig, as well as two great-grandchildren, Jordon Harrington and Jason Bolton.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula Gorecki and her husband, Michael, of Silva, a son in law, Larry Watkins, of Paragould, Ark., 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the New Hope General Baptist Church in Silva. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at the church with Pastor Dan Ross officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Silva. Memorials have been requested to the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Association.
