QULIN, Mo. — Clella Tompkins Whiteside, age 89, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, in Poplar Bluff. Mrs. Whiteside was born September 5, 1929 in Boydsville, Ark., daughter of the late Luther Dave and Ada (Neeley) Nettles. Mrs. Whiteside was a member of Highland Drive Church of Christ. She was a homemaker and had formerly worked at Newberry’s, and as City Clerk at Qulin. She had also served as mayor of Qulin. On March 4, 1946 she married Floyd Tompkins. He preceded her in death on February 22, 1990. On August 8, 1998 she married Jack Whiteside. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2017. She is survived by four children; Tom Tompkins and Bob (Loretta) Tompkins both of Williamsville, Sandy Huggins of Qulin and Robin (Jay) Pearson of Poplar Bluff, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by three sisters; Elvia Permenter, Pansy Gross, Elvera Smith, one son-in-law: Kenny Huggins and one daughter-in-law; Sue Ellen Tompkins. Visitation will begin Friday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. at White-Sanders Funeral Home at Qulin. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Vernon Curry officiating.
