A Poplar Bluff woman was arrested late Saturday after allegedly getting into a drunk driving accident in a stolen vehicle.

According to police, Jennifer Maliah Councilor, 27, was westbound on Victor shortly before 10 p.m. when she pulled into the path of a vehicle traveling north on Ditch Road.

The second vehicle was unable to stop and struck the side of the 2012 Ford Fiesta that witnesses say Councilor was driving. Councilor, of the 400 block of South Broadway, alledgedly fled on foot toward the Happy Mart and was arrested there by police.

A Poplar Bluff teen was driving the second vehicle involved in the accident, but unhurt, according to reports.

The Fiesta was reported stollen shortly before the accident by Tyler Brown, 24, of the 1900 section of Highway 51. Brown told police the vehicle was left running to warm up at a property on McKinley Street, near the intersection.

Officers reported Councilor was incoherent at times after being contacted following the accident, and unable to stand without leaning on a fixed object. They also reported a strong odor of alcohol and finding a bottle of E&J Brandy in Councilor’s pocket. Councilor was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, where a blood sample was taken. She was booked at Butler County jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and stealing a motor vehicle.

The second vehicle was a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Breonna M. Hill, 16, of the 80th section of Hallmark.

No injuries reported at the time of the report.
