Few contests have developed after one day of filing for the school and municipal offices that will be decided in the April 2 election.
Two Poplar Bluff City Council seats are open, for Ward 1 and Ward 3, but no one has filed yet, according to the city clerk.
Filing closes January 15.
Susan McVey, Ward 1 representative and current mayor, said she will not file for re-election. McVey has served on the council from 2004 to 2014, and since 2016 for the current term. She served as mayor in 2008 and 2009, as well.
"I am so proud to have served on city council since 2004 and especially honored to have been elected mayor," McVey said today. "After much thought and consideration, I have decided to not run for re-election in April 2019. I plan to focus on my family and business.
"I will always be supportive of Poplar Bluff and the community."
Ward 3 representative Barbara Horton has not filed, but says she does intend to seek re-election. Horton has been on the council since 2016.
"I truly care about my ward and the people," said Horton. "I want to continue to be a voice for them."
Winners of municipal races are elected for two years. School board members are elected for three years.
