In another step forward with the Stoddard County Jail expansion, the county commission will be accepting bids for the demolition of the property at 201 E. Court Street in Bloomfield.
In addition to running a request for bids in the newspaper, the commission will be sending letters directly to businesses that could provide the work needed.
The property to be demolished is the old Methodist Church behind the Sheriff's Department.
Bid applicants will be asked to demolish the building, replace the basement with fill, haul off materials and clean the property.
4-H Youth Art
Competition
County Engagement Specialist in 4-H Youth Development Kristi Baker was approved to hang student artwork in the halls of the old Stoddard County Courthouse.
The matted photos would be hung with Velcro to not cause damage to the walls.
While the details of the art competition featuring farm animals has not been finalized, Baker said she would like to hold the event in March.
New Computers
For Prosecuting
Attorney's Office
Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver requested to purchase new computers for his office at the cost of $8,000 to $10,000 for the equipment and set up.
Last upgraded in 2011, Oliver reported his officer was wasting a lot of man hours waiting for individual DVDs to burn. The proposed computers feature a five-disc tower to allow the office to burn multiple DVDs at once.
With about $8,000 left in his budget for 2018, Oliver asked the commission how he should proceed with purchasing the new computers.
Presiding Commissioner Greg Mathis told Oliver money from the budget does not roll over from one year to the next, so he would prefer the money be spent this year.
Mathis added for Oliver to inquire about ordering the computers now and to receive a bill to pay out of this year's budget and the remainder in January.
