The fall festivals and annual church bazaars season is here starting Saturday.

Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church Women's Mission Ministry will have its Annual Fall Festival, the Methodist churches' bazaar will be at the First Methodist Church, 500 N. Main St., Julia Kraft Guild of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, 420 N. Main St., annual event will kick off at 8 a.m. St. Anne's 96th Bazaar will be both Saturday, Nov. 3, and Sunday, Nov. 4.

Pleasant Hill

Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church Women's Mission Ministry's festival will be at the church's Family Center, 1116 Garfield St. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The aroma of breakfast will greet the early shoppers. Betty Turner said, they'll have the early-bird breakfast sandwiches, coffee and juice ready when the doors open.

After breakfast visit the white elephant sale featuring fall decorations, dishes, glassware, household items and more. The country store booth will have can goods, fresh vegetables, home necessities, wearing apparels/shoe and more. There will be a drawing for a quilt and grocery basket.

Plate lunches will include choice of baked chicken, ham and beans, smothered cabbage, mixed greens, fried potatoes, candied yams, cole slaw, tossed salad and corn bread.

Homemade baked good will include pies, cakes, cookies, brownies. Homemade vegetable soup and chili as wall hot dogs/chili dogs, chips and assorted drinks are on the menu. They also provide carry-out containers.

Methodist Bazaar

The women of Brown Chapel AME, Poplar Bluff Grace United Methodist and First and Neelyville United Methodist churches are hosting their bazaar at the First Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff. The hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Booths will include hand-made crafts, baked goods, flea market and clothing.

Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross

Julia Kraft Guild of The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross's annual Craft Fair and Bazaar will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Carla Aldridge, president of Julia Kraft Guild of Holy Cross Church, invites everyone to "get started with coffee and a breakfast snack. It's a great day of shopping and socializing. It is free and it is fun."

The guild has been busy creating gift baskets for the fall and Christmas seasons. "Make Someone's Day Gift Mugs" will be available too.

"Please join us for lunch at 11 a.m. for soup and sandwiches," Aldridge said. The menu includes beans and ham, vegetable soup, chili and chilly mac, egg-salad sandwiches and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. "We have cookies and holiday bread to fill your stockings, or your tummy. Cold drinks and Coffee are available all day."

The silent auction is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with something for everyone.

"We have a beautiful retrospective collection of Lee W. Reed's 'Portraits of Poplar Bluff Landmark Homes,'" Aldridge said. This art work includes an authentic signed "pin and ink" sketch of the Spurlock Cabin at Hendrickson Park. It is professionally framed and matted. In addition several limited editions signed prints are available.

Make a bid on the oak accent chair with newly caned seat by Richard Joseph, a Bed in a Bag Comforter set includes sheets, a lidded hors d'oeuvre dish from Mexico, it's a retro Ceramic Duck lamp.

"Get your bids in early and check them throughout the day," Aldridge said. "We close the bids at 1 p.m. and you may pick up your item by 2 p.m. closing."

The crafters will offer a wide variety of quality handmade gifts.

"Our own Verger Mike Malone is prayerfully into textiles," Aldridge said. "He will demonstrate weaving and it's fulfilling gifts, scarves mostly. Mike will donate two handwoven scarfs for the silent auction. Stop in to see Mike and just how it is done."

The Ladies Aid New Home General Baptist Charity Group works all year on their Quilts. They bring an amazing assortment of "Beautiful handmade Quilts, handmade microwave cozies, pot holders and bake goods," Aldridge said.

Jim Pinkerton is creating 'Pyrography," an ancient technique of wood burning. Jim says they are mostly of wildlife, although one particularly wall hanging depicts an Indian Chief on cottonwood bark. He carves tree ornaments and does wood turnings. He has lots of Santa Carvings.

"Come and see this special talent," Aldridge said.

Linda Shaw of Jonesboro, Ark. travels to Holy Cross every year. She makes a line of bath and beauty products is from all natural ingredients. Aldridge said, "Really, she makes deodorant, lip balm, Bug-Off repellent and toothpaste too."

Mary Adier of Mom's Market makes fresh Cinnamon Rolls (to die for). She'll have jellies and jams to go along with that wonderful fresh bead. Notice her Crochet scarves, head bands and pot holders.

Bonnie Stewart is "our "go-to Girl" for everything collectable: Jewelry, dolls, sweaters and lots more. WOW," Aldridge said.

Sally Meyer is a natural with her whimsical doggie scarves to dress up your best friend. It is a fun assortment of quilted table runners, hot mats, ornaments, tooth fairy pillows and gingerbread tree ornaments.

Scott and Katie Ellis bring a wonderful variety of jewelry, crystals and loose natural stones for your own craft projects. Katie designs gourds and they become beautiful home décor and accents pieces.

Lonny Thiele, "Mule column and freelance Writer for Western Mule & Mules and More" is the author of "That Son of a Gun Had Sense: Mule Stories from the Bootheel, 1930-1940s" and "My life with Harry - the Mule." He will have his books and pictures of Mules.

Glenda Kirby turns everyday items into home decorator works of art with her tole painting. She has beautiful gift baskets each containing a pitcher with matching glasses, sets of painted snow man glasses, cake plate and she's painted a rooter on a bar stool and sunflowers on a wooden chair.

Aldridge's Longaberger Baskets & Pottery are specially priced for the day. Patricia Wootton makes wool scarves and headbands. She can set you up to keep warm.

Sacred Heart

The 96th annual St. Anne's Bazaar will be from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Sacred Heart Parish Center at Eighth and Vine streets. Please use the Vine Street ramp entrance.

On Saturday, early shoppers may enjoy Nancy Doran's cinnamon rolls served along with milk or coffee from 7:30 - 10 a.m. chaired by Linda Hurst. The Bakery Booth chaired by Linda Curtis will include homemade pies, cakes, cookies, brownies and desserts prepared by parishioners. The homemade bread baked by descendants of Bertha Walz and friends will be available at the Bakery Booth.

This year the Christmas Shop and Arts & Crafts Booths feature door hangers, unique pallet yard decorations, wreaths, table top settings, and more. The Sewing Booth offers many sewn, knitted, crocheted and embroidered items, such as quilts of several sizes, pillows, pillow cases, aprons, stuffed animals, baby items, Afghans, and more.

The This and That Gift Booth chaired by Mary Farris offers quality items. The Country Store chaired by Doran will include home canned jellies, pickles, pickled okra, relishes, etc. and houseplants. Come find that special trinket in the Jewelry Booth chaired by Gail Fox Dohrman. A large White Elephant booth where you will find something for everyone is chaired by Monietta Wilkerson. The Guadalupe Group chaired by Maria Ventura will again have tamales for sale. Don't forget to order your Christmas Candy from Betty Shelton's booth where you can taste it before you order it. The orders will be ready mid-December for gift giving.

Hungry shoppers may enjoy lunch Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. prepared by a crew led by Nancy Simmons. "This year we're featuring turkey bacon and Reuben Paninis and gourmet salads," Chairman Cassie Willey said. "The menu also includes our traditional chili, hotdogs, chili dogs, broccoli soup, desserts, and drinks."

The bazaar will close at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

There will be five drawings for an embroidered large quilt, $250 cash, and crocheted afghan, crocheted baby blanket, and $50 cash by buying just one chance. Tickets may be bought the day of the bazaar or from any St. Anne's member prior to the bazaar. Winners don't need to be present to win for the drawings at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
