KELLY -- Poplar Bluff nearly earned a comeback win over Kelly Tuesday, but its efforts came up just short.
The Mules entered the seventh inning in a 5-1 hole before scoring three runs in the final side to cut the Kelly lead to one.
They couldn't find the tying run, though.
Errors plagued Poplar Bluff (8-14) throughout the game. The visiting Mules finished with seven errors, while Kelly (12-6) committed just one.
At the plate, Abby Gregory and Lexi Nippe helped lead the way for Poplar Bluff, each tallying two hits. Nippe added two RBIs to her credit.

SOFTBALL
Chaffee 4, Neelyville 2
Neelyville allowed two runs in the final two innings to drop a home outing against Chaffee. Payton Reinbott, Madison Dollins and Taylor Smith had the only hits for the Tigers (11-7) on the day, while Mackenzie Cordell earned the team's only RBI with a sacrifice fly. Madeline Hendrix pitched six innings for Chaffee (10-7), striking out six and allowing just three hits.
East Carter 6, Sikeston 3
East Carter was able to keep Sikeston (3-7) at an arm's length throughout the day Tuesday. Anna Willis led the charge offensively with three hits and a pair of RBIs. Naomi Crowley scored a trio of runs to pace the visiting Redbirds (18-5). Makenna Moore allowed just one earned run and struck out three in a complete game.
Doniphan 9, Naylor 4
Hannah Ponder helped lead Doniphan (13-2) to a victory over Naylor (7-7)Tuesday for its fifth win in six games. Ponder posted three hits, two RBIs and as many runs scored to pace the home side. Kaylee Davis pitched all seven innings and struck out seven while allowing just one earned run.

Van Buren 6, 5 inn
Twin Rivers slugged 19 hits Tuesday in a rout of Van Buren. Katie Deken, Allie Kacynski and Sam McMahan all recorded three hits on the day to lead the Royals. McMahan added four runs scored. Kacynski struck out three in seven innings of work at pitcher.
BASEBALL
East Carter 2, Greenville 1
Colby Miller and Dalton Rudd combined to hold Greenville (10-6) scoreless for six innings, which was enough to earn a victory for the 3 seed in the Ozark Foothills Conference tournament. Rudd and Cody Hampton tallied the two RBIs for East Carter (14-5), and Hampton scored one of the team's runs. Tye Huff struck out eight for Greenville in six innings of work on the mound.

Lesterville 0, 3 inn
Clearwater once again made quick work of an opponent to continue its undefeated season. Hours after earning the 1 seed in the OFC tournament, Clearwater (10-0) secured another win with the help of three hits from Gage Keller and four RBIs from Jesse Holmes. Heath Ayers tossed three innings on the mound, striking out three.

Bernie 4, South Pemiscot 2
After trailing 2-0, Bernie (12-5) scored all four of its runs in fourth inning to earn a victory over South Pemiscot (10-8) to earn third place in the Campbell Fall Baseball Classic. Johnny Vaughn led the offense with two RBIs and a hit for the Mules. Weston Zoll pitched a complete game, striking out six and allowing five hits.
