Thomas Jay Hoover, 76, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 at Black River Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. He was born on March 24, 1942 to Jay Carl and Clara (Hall) Hoover in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Tom graduated from Poplar Bluff in 1960 and Louisiana State University in 1964. Thomas Jay Hoover, 76, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 at Black River Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

He was born on March 24, 1942 to Jay Carl and Clara (Hall) Hoover in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Tom graduated from Poplar Bluff in 1960 and Louisiana State University in 1964. On Aug. 16, 1972, he married Susan Boyle in Poplar Bluff.

After graduating from LSU he returned to Poplar Bluff and spent his entire career with the Poplar Bluff School system where he was a teacher, coach and administrator. After his retirement he stayed busy as a referee and official score keeper for over 15 years.

Tom is survived by his loving spouse of 46 years, Susan Hoover; two children, Thomas Richard (Nora) Hoover of Budapest, Hungary and Jeana Beth (Chris) Cooper of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Aron Hoover, Laura Hoover, Julia Hoover, Jay Cooper, and Cannon Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of friends will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 from 4-6 p.m. at Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff.
