Moses said unto the Israelites just before they were to begin their conquest for Canaan--the Promised Land: "The Eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." Deuteronomy 33:27a. Knowing this surely must have given them courage to enter against a stronger and better equipped nation.
"All power is given unto Me in heaven and on earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Spirit): Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." Matthew 28: 19,20. We have here our divine commission as His followers with His promise to be with us always in good times and bad. Many Christian missionaries are being killed or severely persecuted in many lands today. This is a little difficult to understand in reference to the promise of being with us always, but He can be with us to sustain us even in martyrdom.
"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things (physical-material needs) will be added unto you." Matthew 6:33. What a blessed promise. Why do we not do it?
"Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in Me." John 14:1. Why should our heart be troubled? Is it not because of our immature faith?
"I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day." 2 Timothy 1:12.
The Apostle Paul, after his confrontation with the resurrected Christ on the road to Damascus, gave up his position on the Sanhedrin Court of the Jews to become an apostle to the Gentiles, and what a teacher he became. His preaching was so effective he was imprisoned in Rome. Although silenced by imprisonment, God gave him a way to communicate the Gospel that made his ministry far more effective than preaching--writing. If we credit Hebrews to him, he wrote what came to be 14 books of the New Testament, which continues to bless the world with God's message to mankind.
"For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain," said the great Apostle Paul. Philippians 1:21. If everyone could say that, what a world we would have.
