Following the opening of the Board of Equalization last week, Bill McBrier of Ameren Missouri appeared before Stoddard County Commissioners to appeal their assessment Monday morning.

Commissioners unanimously voted to deny his request since the case involving Ameren is in litigation, Presiding Commissioner Greg Mathis said.

Ameren is in a lawsuit that began several years ago against 16 counties, including Stoddard, arguing the assessment of their natural-gas distribution lines are too high.

Following the vote, commissioners closed the Board of Equalization and opened the Board of Appeals. The board will stay open for two weeks.

Commissioners reached out to the County Commissioners Association of Missouri to look into ordinances regarding meat processing and packing plants near residential areas.

Each commission in the county will be sending Stoddard County examples of ordinances in the state.

Mathis said once receiving the ordinances, the commission will address the issue at a later date.
