Jesus had driven the money-changers, and they that sold doves or animals to be sacrificed, out of the temple when a blind and lame mane came to Him to be healed. With His mind on spiritual things, and His heart nearly broken, because of the desecration of the temple, Jesus took time to show compassion on a blind man and gave him his sight.
What a commentary on the greatness of soul and goodness of heart of our Lord and Savior. He told them, "My house is called the house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves." Matthew 21:13. He would not permit an opportunity to help or heal someone to pass.
May this little noted and unheralded incident in the life of Jesus awaken us to the many opportunities we have to show compassion, speak a word of kindness and encouragement, show some love, kindness and concern to the sick, the lonely and the forgotten. When someone becomes unable to get out and participate in religious or other activities, they miss the fellowship that was once an integral part of their lives.
Pause a moment in your overly busy life and take time to write that letter, send a card, make that telephone call and for some an e-mail. Do not do it as a duty, but as out-pouring of love in the spirit of Christ. You will be richly blessed.
