Foul play is not suspected in the death of a Poplar Bluff man who was found in his car early Wednesday morning on North 10th Street.

The 67-year-old man, whose name is not being released pending notification of his next of kin, was found dead inside his black Ford Mustang parked on 10th Street, just before the alley next to Family Video, said Poplar Bluff Police Lt. Josh Stewart.

Authorities were contacted at about 7 a.m. when "someone reported the driver slumped over the steering wheel" of a parked car, said Police Capt. David Sutton. "An ambulance was dispatched and a patrol officer.

"EMS determined he had passed away and CID (Criminal Investigation Division) was notified and responded to process the scene."

According to Sutton, there were no "obvious signs of trauma about the person's body, and no signs of violence at the scene."

Although there were no signs of foul play "we treat all death investigations skeptically," Sutton said.

Detectives, Stewart said, will investigate the man's death to the fullest extent.

"We will be checking with every available option" as the investigation continues, Stewart said.

The man's death, according to Butler County Coroner Andy Moore, appears to be an overdose.

"At this time, we are not going to do an autopsy; we're just going to do blood work," said Moore.

Toxicology results typically take six to eight weeks to be returned.
