John Hulley and Sheri Stone of Wappapello went to their local Food Rite on May 16 for a bag of ice, and on the way out, they decided to buy some Missouri Lottery Scratchers tickets. They each took a few to scratch when they got home, and Stone's set contained the big winning ticket -- a million dollars.

"I didn't think it was real. I kept saying, 'Let me see that ticket. Is that real?'" said Stone, about the $1 million top prize she uncovered on the "$1,000,000 Fortune" Scratchers ticket.

Both Hulley and Stone decided to share the big news with their moms. The two said their mothers were excited and couldn't believe they bought a $1 million winning ticket in Wappapello.

"My mom asked me, 'Where did you buy that ticket?' and I told her the store at the lake. And she said, 'They sell those there?'' laughed Stone. "I told her they did that one."

Hulley and Stone are planning to use some prize money to pay off medical bills. They also plan to relax and take a vacation to Jamaica.

"I'm still in shock. It is pretty exciting," said Stone.

Hulley and Stone purchased their winning Scratchers ticket at Food Rite, located at 50 State Highway RA, in Wappapello.

"$1,000,000 Fortune" is a $10 Scratchers game that began in July 31, 2017. The game has more than $14 million in total prizes remaining, including one more top prize of $1 million.
