A local retailer received national recognition this month for its sales performance.
The Poplar Bluff, Mo., location of JCPenney was honored with the Founder's Award during a ceremony April 5 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.
The Founder's Award is presented to general and district managers for leading teams that deliver strong results in the areas of financial performance, customer and client service and business expertise, according to a press release.
Evelyn Smith, general manager of the Poplar Bluff store, was among more than 90 store leaders recognized for outstanding performance in 2017. The company has more than 870 store locations nationwide.
"The community has been super involved and super supportive of their JCPenney and want us to do well," said Smith. "Everything is because of community support."
Smith has been at the Poplar Bluff store since May 2017, and with the company for six years, previously working as general manager of the Sikeston location.
Marvin R. Ellison, chairman and chief executive officer, Joe McFarland, executive vice president and chief customer officer, and Tony Hurst, senior vice president of stores attended the event to recognize the leaders' achievements.
"I'm proud of our dedicated associates at JCPenney in Poplar Bluff who received this special recognition," said Hurst. "The Founder's Award is the Company's highest honor, recognizing top-performing leaders that significantly contribute to the success of JCPenney and provide customers with an unmatched shopping experience. We look forward to another exceptional year serving the customers in Poplar Bluff."
The longtime Poplar Bluff retailer recently added a Sephora location to their South Westwood Boulevard location. The $180,000 renovation added beauty products to about 1,500 square feet of space on thee right hand side of the main entrance, according to permits filed with the city planning department.
A grand opening for Sephora will be held May 4, Smith said.
Another renovation is expected to start in July on the salon, which will become The Salon by InStyle inside JCPenney. This project is expected to be complete in August.
