JONESBORO, Ark. -- The Lady Raiders continued their perfect start to the season.

Three Rivers swept its third straight team in beating the Arkansas State club team 10-2 in the opener and 8-2 in the nightcap Sunday.

"They won the club team national championship last year. They beat us 3 of 4 last year, so we were fortunate to go down and get two wins," Three Rivers coach Jeff Null said. "I wouldn't say we played our best, but we didn't play bad either. Just a solid day."

Allison Pingel had a solo home run in the opener, giving her three home runs through six games, and the first four in the batting order were a combined 11 for 15 for six runs and eight RBIs. Those same four were 6 for 12 with seven runs and five RBIs in the nightcap to collectively bat .630 in the doubleheader.

"They've been carrying us all year. Our top five for the most part, it was four the other day, they are going to be as tough as anybody around. We just have to figure out the bottom part of our lineup and get a little more consistency out of them," Null said.

Leadoff hitter Randi Scruggs was 5 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs and was a home run away from the cycle in the opener.

Scruggs opened the game with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kristyn Carpenter.

She also singled and scored in the fifth. In the next inning, she had a two-run double and soon scored on a single by Carpenter, who finished 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Scruggs stole second base twice, and those first four stole a combined eight bases in the double header.

Batting third, Gracie King had a two-run double and Pingel was 2 for 3 with her home run.

Summer Shockley got the win after allowing two walks and two hits with four strikeouts over five innings. Kari Hatridge finished the game and allowed two runs off three hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Shockley (3-0), who had 20 strikeouts in Three Rivers previous doubleheader against John A. Logan, retired the side in the first and fifth innings.

"Wasn't quite as sharp as she was against Logan, obviously, but she still threw well," Null said.

The Lady Raiders led 1-0 going into the fourth innings, than tacked on two runs in the fourth and fifth, and four runs in the sixth. Seven spots in the lineup contributed a run.

Scruggs, Carpenter and King each scored twice in the nightcap.

Three Rivers (6-0) again took the lead in the first inning after Carpenter singled, stole second, and King drove her win with a line drive up the middle.

Arkansas Baptist tied the game with a pair of unearned runs in the third before Three Rivers retook the lead in the fifth.

Sydney Tollison singled and stole second to open the fifth and roll things over to the top of the lineup.

Scruggs walked, and after a sacrifice, King lined an RBI single up the middle and Pingel sent a two-run double to right field.

Peyton Gunn followed with another double to score Pingle and put Three Rivers ahead 6-2.

Scruggs and Carpenter added runs in the sixth. Scruggs tripled and scored on Carpenter's single. Carpenter then stole second, took third on a passed ball. After King walked to put runners on the corners, Carpenter scored on a double steal.

Macy Rogers (2-0) pitched five innings in the win and had 10 strikeouts with three hits and a walk. She retired the side in the second and fourth innings in similar fashion after getting two strikeouts and then a groundout to the left side.

Rogers struck out eight of the first 11 batters she face and 10 of Three Rivers first 12 outs were strikeouts.

"Best performance she has had this year," Null said.

Carleigh Burnett pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

She got out of a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the sixth after getting a groundout to second, and then retired the side in the seventh.
