Dear Editor,

Steve and I both wish to commend the Poplar Bluff Police Department and Robertson Contractors, Inc. for their role in the removal of the barricades at the construction site on Roxie Road. Police Chief Danny Whiteley, Lt. Bob Moore and Officer Trevor Parks were instrumental in the removal of these barricades on February 13, 2018.

Progress for the community of Poplar Bluff is a wonderful thing. We all share in well-wishes for the new bypass being constructed for Phase II of Selby Drive. As local business owners ourselves, we are also extremely proud of the fact that this project was awarded to another local business, Robertson Contractors, Inc. The completion of the project will ultimately bring much needed relief to the traffic flow in and around the city. It will connect "the north" with "the south"! We also know that with any improvement or construction project, there must be sacrifices and inconveniences along the way, especially for the neighborhoods directly affected. But we also share in the frustration that was being put upon the residents of Roxie Road, Black Creek Church Road and Black Creek Road in that we were being forced to travel some 20-25 minutes out of our way to conduct business, seek medical attention, attend church and shop in Poplar Bluff.

However, on February 13, 2018 we were able to speak with the Police Department, encouraging them to research Missouri Statutes. Upon the completion of their research, Lt. Bob Moore phoned to inform us that the barricades were indeed inappropriate and that he would have them removed. Lt. Moore was true to his word and by nightfall, the barricades were removed.

While we are totally aware that the construction project is far from completed, and we are also totally aware, as are the rest of the residents of our neighborhood, that there will be more inconveniences to come. We have been assured that Roxie Road cannot be completely blocked off and that flagmen or other mechanical traffic control devices will be deployed, thereby allowing for the much needed free-flow of traffic for all of us.

The Roxie Road Community tips our hat to the Poplar Bluff Police Department and to Robertson Contractors, Inc.! Thank you! We are all looking forward to the completion of this project and the prosperity and commerce it will bring to Poplar Bluff for many, many years to come!
