8th Annual Calling artists of all ages! The popular "Art for Animals" fund raiser is approaching fast and it's time to get your canvas.
The eighth-annual, two-week art show and silent auction, which benefits the Animal Welfare Alliance (AWA), opens on April 6 at the Poplar Bluff Municipal Library.
"Art for Animals" features dozens of 5-by-7-inch original works by area artists both professional and amateur.
Artfully Framed proprietor Barbara Pelton continues as the primary sponsor and organizer of the event.
Blank canvases are available now at her store for $10 each. "Several artists already have begun their projects," she says.
Deadline for getting finished artworks back to Artfully Framed in the Bluff Estates Shopping Center is March 31.
"The Unleashing" opening reception for the event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 6, in the lower level of the Library. Reception admission is free and open to the public. Guests at the party can see the artwork and start the bidding process then.
Art will be on display for two weeks, with final bids accepted at "The Tail End" closing reception at the Library from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 20. Various prizes will be awarded then, including the $100 Tackett Award for the artwork fetching the highest bid.
All donations and proceeds from the silent auction support AWA's programs.
AWA provides $50 vouchers for qualifying pet owners to help with spay/neuter costs and has spent more than $57,000 on that project since 2009. With the cooperation of Poplar Bluff's Animal Control officers, AWA also helps provide vaccinations for puppies and kittens in the city's shelter. The organization sets aside half of all income toward construction of a no-kill shelter to serve this area. AWA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization; donations are tax deductible within IRS guidelines.
