Dessie M. Whoberry, 96, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at Oakdale Caring Center.

She was born in Manilla, Ark. July 3, 1921, to the late James Dunn and Ethel McIntosh Dunn. Dessie was a long time resident of Butler County. She was a member of Collins Chapel Church.

In 1940 she married Carl Whoberry at Broseley, Mo. He preceded her in death.

Dessie was a cook for the Lucy Lee Hospital. She enjoyed reading and sewing.

She is survived by one son, Bill Whoberry of Tenn.; one daughter, Jeannie Riley of St. Ann, Mo.; two brothers, Otis Dunn of Malden, Mo. and Curtis Dunn of Michigan; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Whoberry; three daughters, Barbara Wilson, Norma Eller, and Carlene Husky; one brother, J.D. Dunn; and one sister, Geneva Woodham.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at City Cemetery. Pastor Otis Dunn will officiate. Burial will be at City Cemetery.
