Dr. Bob J. Casey, 90, a prominent retired Poplar Bluff dentist, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Bob, the son of the late John and La Doskie (Allen) Casey, was born June 29, 1927 in Poplar Bluff. He was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School class of 1945. In 1946, Bob entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Army, he attended Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, where he graduated in 1953. Bob returned to Poplar Bluff and began his practice in dentistry with Dr. William Allen. After Dr. Allen's retirement Bob took over the practice and practiced dentistry for 39 years. He retired in 1992.
Bob loved to run and walk and was fondly referred to as "the man walking on Barron Road every day". He attended First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) his entire life and served many years as a Deacon. He was later ordained as a Deacon Emeritus.
Bob is survived by two daughters, Linda Casey of Poplar Bluff and Susan Weis of Ballwin, Mo.; three grandchildren Michael Austin Casey and Scott Casey of San Jose, Calif. and Casey Weis also of Ballwin; and his beloved dog Buster.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Casey, a sister, Alta Casey and a brother John Casey.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church with Rev. Frank Chlastak officiating and Dr. Ron Allen assisting. Burial with full military honors will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
