The Dream Construction Organization's Fall Festival featured Officer Dustin Barks of the Poplar Bluff Police Department in an effort to spread police awareness and support throughout the community.
The event was held Oct. 28 at Wheatley School where Barks answered questions for more than 200 attendees including questions about body cameras and safety.
Shantelle Combs, Dream Construction Organization member, said having a police officer on hand to answer questions community members normally wouldn't be able to ask was great.
"Children were excited to attend and parents said they were glad for what we were doing for the community," she said.
The Dream Construction Organization wants to bridge the gap between officers and the children in the community and educate on how to approach police officers.
The goal of the event, the Dream Construction team said, was to let police officers know the support of the community is there and to create an open relationship.
Other events scheduled during the family friendly day included a chili supper, games, Trunk-or-Treat and hayride.
Two local artists, Latez Kellum and Yung Zeus, also performed during the Fall Festival.
Combs said the event could not have taken place without the help of the many volunteers.
More than $1,000 was raised from the Fall Festival, according to Combs, and the funds will go towards a community Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 18.
"This will help feed more people," she said.
The Dream Construction Organization began as a dream for individuals wanting to motivate and empower youth in the community.
The next fundraiser scheduled is a philly cheese steak and chicken cooking competition for Nov. 11.

"The events are opportunities for families to congregate with other members of the community," Combs said.
