A Poplar Bluff, Mo., man may face drug and weapons charges after his recent arrest in connection with his alleged leaving the scene of an accident.
At 10:48 a.m. Sunday, officers with the Poplar Bluff Police Department responded to the intersection of North Main and Davis streets in reference to a leaving the scene accident with injuries, according to Capt. David Sutton.
Witnesses reported the driver of one of the vehicles, a GMC SUV, had fled the scene on foot.
The driver, Sutton said, had been inside JD's Quick Stop just prior to the accident, and he was identified by surveillance video footage as Brandon Hart.
The suspect's vehicle, Sutton said, was impounded and towed from the scene.
Sutton said a stolen AR-15, a substantial amount of suspected methamphetamine, $1,780 cash and suspected drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle.
Sutton said Hart subsequently was found at his residence in the 300 block of South B Street at about 2 a.m. Monday and arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, stealing and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The 30-year-old was booked in the Butler County Jail, where he is being held without bond on a warrant for parole violation.
Sutton said the investigation is continuing and additional arrests may follow.
