The Van Buren softball team captured its third straight Norwood Tournament championship with a trio of wins Saturday. The Lady Dawgs outlasted Alton 10-9 to reach the semis, then held on for a 6-5 victory over the hosts before beating Dora 8-5 in the title game...

The Van Buren softball team captured its third straight Norwood Tournament championship with a trio of wins Saturday.

The Lady Dawgs outlasted Alton 10-9 to reach the semis, then held on for a 6-5 victory over the hosts before beating Dora 8-5 in the title game.

Sydnee Sanders went 6 for 10 with four RBIs and a pair of runs scored in three games to lead Van Buren (13-4), which won its fourth straight. Makenna Chilton doubled in the go-ahead run in the championship game and went 3 for 7 on the weekend. Jennifer Morey was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a triple in the Lady Dawgs' semifinal win, Courtney Tripp was 2 for 4 and Brooke Jackson added a double.

Morgan Shockley added a triple in the title game while Crafton and Sanders both doubled.

Jalynn Morgan, fresh off an injury, pitched two complete games, allowing a combined 10 runs on 21 hits with seven strikeouts in the semifinal and final.

Doniphan 12, Saxony 2

Timberly Masching was a perfect 3 for 3 with four runs scored as the Donettes drubbed the host Crusaders Saturday.

Kaylee Davis was the winning pitcher and went 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI. Lexi Day had two hits and two RBIs, Madison Eddington had two hits while Hannah Ponder, Audri Holland, Madison Turner and Jaylin Dutton all added hits for Doniphan (11-3).

Doniphan 15, St. Pius 2

Davis picked up her second win of the day and had three hits and an RBI to lead the Donettes past the Lancers.

Masching and Paige Eddington added a double and a triple with a combined five RBIs while Day had a double and a single.

Holland and Ponder had two hits and two RBIs apiece and Madison Eddington had a hit and two RBIs for the Donettes, who turned five double plays Saturday.

BASEBALL

Bernie 12, Naylor 4

After Weston Zoll's perfect game on Thursday, Dalton Hobgood pitched a five-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks in the win Friday.

Nate Dillinger hit a pair of doubles for the Mules (13-1) and finished 2 for 3 with three runs in the No. 8 spot in the lineupt. Hunter Slavings, batting ninth, also scored three times and drove in another run.

The bottom three spots in the Bernie lineup contributed seven runs and were 5 for 9 at the plate.

Oran 3, Bernie 0

The Mules have now lost twice this season, and both were to Oran.

Bernie scattered six hits and two walks in the loss. Gavin Brown allowed three hits and three walks with one strikeout for Bernie (13-2). One run was earned.

Greenville 3, Puxico 1

Patrick Friley and Alex Hicks each doubled to help the Bears pick up their first win of the season Friday.

Hicks was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Friley drove in one with his double and Jack Becker added the only other hit for Greenville (1-6).

Warren Willard struck out five, walked one and gave up five hits in four scoreless innings. Hayden McDaniel gave up one run on three hits with two walks to close out the game.

VOLLEYBALL

Bloomfield 2, Notre Dame 1 (30-28, 19-25, 25-22)

Bailey Below and Jewell Chism both finished with 11 kills after the Lady Wildcats topped Notre Dame in three sets, including a 30-28 win in the opening set.

Cayla Mayberry, the third member of the Lady Wildcats' front trio with Chism and Below, added seven kills and led the team with four block kills.

Lilly Warrick had three aces and Nicole Roper finished with 28 assists.

Kaley Roper had 15 digs to lead the defense while Chism got 13.
