"A decision has not been made yet," House Speaker Todd Richardson said regarding a possible run for state auditor. "A decision will be made very soon."

Richardson, of Poplar Bluff, is not taking the decision of whether or not to run for the office lightly. Throughout his decision making process, Richardson said he is remaining mindful of the commitment to the office.

"The auditor is the primary watchdog for the people of the state," Richardson said. "The one who looks out for the taxpayers."

He also added the same issues, which are important to him in his state representative office, will remain important to him if choosing to enter the race for auditor.

Wanting to make sure Missouri is the kind of state people can enjoy, Richardson said he wants citizens to have the same opportunities he had while growing up in Poplar Bluff.

"Good people in public office can make a difference," Richardson said.

Current Democratic Auditor Nicole Galloway will be up for re-election next year, when Richardson will reach his representative term limit.

Galloway was appointed by former Democratic Governor Jay Nixon in 2015 to fill the vacancy of the office after the suicide of Auditor Tom Schweich.
