Margena Grayson Halferty went to be with her Heavenly Father on Aug. 24, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was 89 at the time of her death.
Margena was born to Harrison and Tina Grayson on July 27, 1928, in Corning, Ark. She attended public school in Corning, where she graduated. She was married on March 21, 1959, to Vincent Halferty in Corning.
Margena lived most of her married life in Poplar Bluff while her husband worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother working tirelessly to serve her Lord and family.
Margena was a longtime member (over 50 years) of the First Christian Church, where she was active in church organizations, including singing in the church choir, Christian Women's Fellowship and being an elder emeritus. She had been an active member and officer of Fine Arts Club, Altrusa and PEO.
Her hobbies included photography, painting and gardening. Margena sold real estate for many years for Bob Sutton Realty, where she became a Lifetime Member of the Million Dollar Sales Club.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Vincent Halferty.
Also surviving are daughter, Maryann Halferty McLean (Charles) of Bartlett, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Ryan Vincent McLean of Memphis, Tenn., and Jessi Paige Linville of Spring Hill, Tenn.; one great-granddaughter, Nalani McLean; as well as several nieces and nephews. Special caregivers include Teresa Lindsey and Jamie Emery.
Margena was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Fred Grayson and Jim Grayson; and sisters, Brady Watson, Carrie Hooper, Lavinia Mongo and Irene Russell.
Visitation will be on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, at First Christian Church on North Main Street from 1 to 2 p.m., with the funeral to immediately follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mary Bolan officiating. Interment will be in the Woodlawn section of the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery
