Stephen James "Jamie" Blalock, 51, of Poplar Bluff passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2017 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, surrounded by his entire family, after an illness of eight months.
Jamie was born Aug. 27, 1965, in Memphis, Tenn., to Leslie and Connie Simmons Blalock. He graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1983. On Nov. 2, 1985, he married Regina Dawn Smith in Poplar Bluff.
Following in his father's footsteps, Jamie spent his career working in the heating and cooling and appliance repair business, most recently operating Appliance Parts Central. He was known both in his business dealings and in community involvement for his honesty, dedication, fairness and easygoing nature.
Jamie accepted Jesus as his Savior in May and was a member of Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center.
Hunting and fishing were his favorite activities through the years, along with watching Cardinals baseball, football games and NASCAR races. He loved spending time with family and friends, and the Blalock home was a frequent gathering place on many an evening or weekend. He enjoyed close lifelong friendships with his "brothers from other mothers," often referred to as the "Old Flame Gang": Lyndell Coleman, Tracy Stewart, Scott Stephens, John Sloan and Paul Babcock. But nothing gave him more pleasure than the birth of his son 13 years ago, the bond they shared and the fun they enjoyed together.
Jamie is survived by his wife, Gina; his son, Stephen Alexander "Alex" Blalock; his mother and stepfather, Connie and Bill Marler of Poplar Bluff; his mother-in-law, Juanita Smith of Poplar Bluff; two brothers: Robbie (Rachel) Blalock of Poplar Bluff, and Howard "Champ" (Laura) Blalock of Dodgeville, Wis.; a sister, Cathy (Mitch) Wood of Lakeland, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Scott (Shirlena) Smith of Poplar Bluff; seven nieces and nephews, and two great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and his father-in-law, Robert W. Smith.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Williams, will follow at noon Wednesday, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an educational fund for Alex Blalock by mailing checks to Regina Blalock, P.O. Box 1535, Poplar Bluff, MO 63902.
