Permits were issued last week by the city of Poplar Bluff for a new building at Mansion Mall that is expected to include a Starbucks.
It is among approximately $3.3 million in new construction and remodeling permits issued recently.
The final building at Mansion Mall would be located south of Swafford's Amoco and have two retail spaces, for a total of 3,750 square feet, according to documents on file with the city.
A space of 2,000 square feet is marked off for a Starbucks, building plans show.
Developer Jim Bailey told the city he will spend $300,000 to construct the shell of the two spaces. Tenants like Starbucks will file additional permits to complete the interior of the structure.
Another national coffee chain is ready to begin the finish work on a space on North Westwood Boulevard, in Shops At 18 Eighty.
Dunkin Doughnuts recently filed a permit to complete $265,000 worth of interior construction to their approximately 2,100-square-foot space. The franchise was expected to open this summer, but work appears to have lagged behind that of RNR Tire, another business in Shops At 18 Eighty that is open now.
One of the largest projects currently underway outside of the Eight Points retail area is a renovation of Aldi.
The company has estimated it will cost $2 million. The majority of this work will be done to the exterior of the business, including a retaining wall and new front facade, city officials said.
A new building permit for the Eight Points area has been issued for Rhodes 101. It will include an Imo's Pizza location. The $750,000 building, to be located west of Menards, will top 5,100 square feet.
Developers have said this location should be open by December. That is around the same time a Scotty's Brewhouse restaurant is also expected to open in that area, although building permits have not been issued for the site.
Locations east of Menards, including Ross, PetSmart, Shoe Carnival, Dollar Tree, and Jimmy John's are expected to open by the fall, according to schedules released by developers.
Bailey also has an existing permit for what he estimated would be $10,000 in demolition work to the former CiCi's Pizza location in Valley Plaza. No other permits have been filed for that location.
