Norman Allen, 87, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., moved to heaven on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 2:25 am.
Norman, the son of Alvin Allen and Sylvia Watson Allen of Fairdealing, Mo., was born February 3, 1930. Norman owned Allen's TV Sales and Service in partnership with his late brother, Clifford Allen, for 40 years, after attending television and radio mechanics training. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in France during the Korean War.
Norman enjoyed watching Cardinal's baseball, working on his cattle farm, buying and selling cars, and traveling to 38 states including Alaska and Hawaii, as well, as the Bahamas, Canada, Germany, Mexico and Spain. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and on the administrative council and Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School Class, a youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, and member of the Methodist Men.
On April 19, 1953, he married Alma Dunlap at the home of her parents. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Debra Edge of Ozark, Mo., Donna Shortz and husband, Chuck, of Dunkirk, MD; four grandchildren, Jared Braschler and wife, Jessica, of Ozark, Kyle Braschler of Ozark, Arin Shortz of Alexandria, Va., and Mark Shortz of Glen Burnie, MD; and step-grandson, Jeff Edge and wife, Jacki, of Bolivar, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Beckett Braschler and Finley Braschler; step-great-grandchild, Maddy Edge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Survivors also include brothers Glen Allen of Poplar Bluff, Vernon Allen and wife, Debbie, of Dexter, Mo., Ray Allen, Marvin Allen and wife, Della, of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters, Sylvia Childs and husband, Bob, Wilma Allen, and Gerry Leuchtefeld and husband, John, of St. Louis; brother-in-law, Bill Dunlap of Poplar Bluff; sisters-in-law, Myra Allen and Wanda Allen of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Arthur and Dale; three sisters, Audrey Ferguson, Mary Dunlap and Sharon Davidson; brothers-in-law, Darrell Davidson and Walter Ferguson; sisters-in-law, Claudia Allen and Margaret Allen, Lillian Allen; and son-in-law, David Edge.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff. The Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with graveside services following at Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart Fund or Diabetes Association.
