Dexter's Zach Potts and Eric Hahn reached the MSHSAA Class 4 quarterfinals before losing 6-1, 6-1 to Pembroke Hill's Nathan Turtledove and Garrett Kincaid at the Cooper Tennis Center on Saturday in Dexter.

Turtledove and Kincaid would go on to lose in the championship match.

"They were overmatched in the Pembroke Hill match, who won the state team championship the day before and ended up getting second overall individually," Dexter coach Kurt Lovelady said. "I liked our chances against Clayton after watching them play earlier in the day. However, Clayton played incredible against us. The were getting a ton of first serves in and was hitting a lot of winners. Even their coach said they hadn't played as well as they did against us the whole season."

In the first round, Potts and Hahn (18-4) defeated Dalton Buschjost and Tristan Grawe of Helias Catholic.

"The boys came out a little timid, but was able to get the first few games and control the match from there against Helias," Lovelady said.

Earlier in the season, Potts and Hahn won the Cape Girardeau Doubles Tournament and the Poplar Bluff Invitational. They were 8-1 overall in tournament play.

TRACK & FIELDHanna Moore had a great start in the 200-meter dash, but near the 75-meter mark, her legs just weren't there and she a time that, for her, was considered slow.

"She had a beautiful start, she looked good, and with about 75 meters left she just lost it," Dexter coach Kim Waldner said. "She was so smooth, she had already made her first stagger, and I don't know what it was."

Moore, who had the fourth best seed time entering state, finished the 200 prelims in 26.07 seconds for sixth in her heat and 13th overall, failing to make the finals.

"She's never ran in the 26s, all year," Waldner said.

Dexter's 400 relay team of Moore, Paige Moore, Rhylan Hillis and Alexa Werneck finished in 51.18, about a second slower than their average, for 15th place.

"I don't know if it was nerves with them or what it was," Waldner said.

Among the Lady Bearcat qualifiers for state, Hillis is the only one who has qualified before.
