DEXTER, Mo. -- George Franklin Smee, 95, of Dexter died Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter.

Mr. Smee was born May 4, 1922, at Parma, Mo., to William Franklin Smee and Phoebe Gibbs Smee.

He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter, Mo.

On Oct. 5, 1939, he married Elva Gaines at Bloomfield, Mo. She preceded him in death after 72 years on Dec. 30, 2011.

Mr. Smee served in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 27, 1945, until his discharge on April 2, 1946.

He was a former co-owner with his wife, Elva, of George's Freeze Queen in Bernie, Mo., and Grandpa's Barbeque in Dexter, Mo.

Four children born of marriage: Steve and Mary Smee of Calvert City, Ky., Stanley and Lois Smee of Jackson, Mo., Sharon and Rondell Smiley of Bernie, Mo., and Gary and Linda Smee of Mountain City, Texas.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

His parents; four sisters, Goldie Stinson, Annie Altom, Molly Black and Hazel Rennie and one grandchild preceded him in death.

Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, followed by the funeral at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lonny Mittag officiating. Burial will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friendship Baptist Church of Dexter, Mo. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
