NEELYVILLE, Mo. -- Neelyville School board members learned Thursday night about the summer projects planned to spruce up the district's campuses and hired a new early childhood teacher.

During his report to the board, Superintendent Brad Hagood said, he outlined the projects district maintenance personnel expect to complete this summer, including replacing sidewalks at both the Neelyville and Hillview campuses.

A flashing light, designating the school zone on Highway 160 at the Hillview campus, also is slated for installation, he said.

In addition, he said, work will be done on the roof of the metal classroom building at Hillview.

Planned projects on the Neelyville campus, Hagood said, also include lighting improvements and replacement of some poles on the high school baseball fence.

"Then, of course, there are some things we do every year," such as painting and things of that nature, Hagood said.

According to Hagood, he also told the board that the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education had given school districts the opportunity to request a forgiveness waiver for days missed due to flooding.

"I did that (made the request), and they granted us a waiver" for the five days the district missed, Hagood said.

No action was taken, but, Hagood said, the board asked him to seek bids on what he described as a smaller bus with wheelchair lift.

"I will be doing that; I'll probably send that out Monday, seeking bids for one of those buses," Hagood said.

In executive session, Hagood said, the board voted unanimously to hire Kaylee Hessling for an early childhood teaching position.

Board members John French and Dean Fisher were absent.

The board moved its next meeting to Thursday, June 29.
