The Butler County unit of Missouri Retired Teachers Association met April 19 in the Altrusa Room at Twin Towers. President James Barnhill called the meeting to order. Sheila Boyles, a teacher/librarian at Lake Road Elementary shared hymns and educational experiences.

Taylor Rice, a senior at Twin Rivers who plans to major in education, was awarded the annual scholarship of $300. She will be presented the scholarship at the June meeting.

Barnhill reported on the President's Summit held in March at Jefferson City. The Butler County unit will be supporting the Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation through monetary donations and a silent auction item. The Foundation provides classroom grants of $500 to teachers throughout Missouri. Classroom teachers are encouraged to apply on the MRTA website or they may contact any MRTA member for more information.

Branson Fun Days will be Nov. 16 with lots of entertainment provided. Linda Surber also reported on the progress of legislation of interest to retired teachers.

The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, in the Altrusa Room at Twin Towers. Jim Kreider, executive director for the Missouri Retired Teachers Association, will share information and answer questions regarding COLA and other issues at that meeting. The meeting is open to all retired teachers and school personnel.
