The Bootheel United Zymurgist (BUZ) are inviting the public to come sample some of the best craft beers in the land for a good cause.

The third annual Bootheel Beerfest and Homebrew Competition will take place noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine, at the Ad Grotto, 3102 Kennedy Lane in Poplar Bluff. The event features music, tastings and food pairings from dozens of regional vendors and artisans.

BUZ president David Peluso says the event aims to bring the ever-growing world of craft brewing to Poplar Bluff. More than 50 brewers will offer 100 different products ranging from barrel-aged and imperials to rare and sour beers.

"There will be more than 100 different beers there, so you wont be able to try them all. The benefit is a lot of people who are not into craft beer are scared to buy a six pack of something they have never had," Peluso said.

"This gives them a chance to try a bunch of different things without having to drop $10-12 to find out they don't like it," he said.

Bootheel United Zymurgist (BUZ) is a non-profit organization composed of members sharing a passion for creating quality beer and wine who encourage educational experience for all members through shared skills.

"Zymurgy is basically the study of fermentation. Our group includes wine makers, beer makers, people who distill alcohol, mead makers. So we have all kinds of people who enjoy fermentation," Peluso said.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Poplar Bluff. The event in the past has raised thousands of dollars for local non-profit organizations.

Tickets are available prior to the event or at the door. Prices range from $25-$50. Visit the BUZ Facebook page for more information.
